It is so important to have a clear direction and a sense of what you would like your wedding to look and feel like. That way, during the planning stages you can make informed and calculated decisions that will result in a cohesive outcome.
A perfect case in point is Roseanne Hogan & Brett Seymour’s wedding, which I helped plan and execute this past Saturday. During Roseanne’s speech she said she was the luckiest woman, because girls so often dreamed of a fairytale princess wedding and she was right there living her fairytale, princess wedding.
Firstly to put it into perspective Roseanne loves everything pink (even her dog is called Pinky), she loves bling and all things pretty. And one of the many reasons why she and Brett are made for each other is that even though he is a professional rugby player and very obviously very blokey, he was happy to give his bride her wish and have a very pink wedding, right down to wearing pink ties.
Because Roseanne had a very clear picture of what her wedding would look like, it was so much easier for her to make decisions on decor, invitations, flowers, favours, bridesmaid’s dresses, etc. She was also a realist, while there were some things she was very particular about others she was a lot more relaxed about. She was also very happy to take advice on many items and issues, and happy to relinquish control in certain areas.
All in all, Roseanne was the perfect bride and the perfect client – she knew what she wanted, but was a realist and was happy to compromise when the budget or the situation did not suit. She trusted the suppliers she hired, she was focused and organised and she communicated her thoughts and ideas well. On the day she didn’t sweat the small stuff and she relaxed and enjoyed each moment of her big day – the scripted and un-scripted parts.
