Kids Parties

Planning a children's party can be quite a daunting task, however, there are a few little tricks which you can make use of, that will make it far easier.

  • It is always a great idea to theme the party, that way all the decisions are focused on carrying the theme through. Of course there are literally hundreds of themes to choose from, but invariably, your child will let you know what theme they would like most.
  • Often a fancy dress is very popular & having all the guests in colourful costumes, means that you do not have to spend too much time on decorating the place, as the kids themselves become the props. Kids (& most parents) get quite involved in putting their costumes together & if the parents are not creative enough to make their kids costumes, there are plenty of places to either buy or hire costumes from.
  • Set a time limit to the party & ensure that it is printed on the invitations & confirm with the parents when they drop their children off as to what time they must return to collect them. It obviously depends on the children's ages as to how long the party should be, but 2-3 hours is normally more than long enough.
  • If you are planning a large party, don't be afraid to ask a few of the parents to help out.
  • If the weather permits, have all the food & drinks outside & make sure that this is where the kids stay to eat & drink, this will definitely save your carpets.
  • If the weather is against you, keep all the food in one room & insist that the kids eat & drink in that room, rather than walking through your whole house.
  • Make use of disposable plates & cups, that way there will be no breakages (& tears) & you will save yourself a ton of washing up.
  • When catering, be aware of the number of kids who have food allergies like nuts & milk & try to avoid these.

  • If you are able to be outside don't forget to have a large bottle of sunscreen available & if possible spare sun hats (there are likely be those that forget to bring their own).
  • Depending on the children's ages, come up with some party games, these will take up quite a bit of the party time, are always loved by the kids & can be very inexpensive as prizes can be bought from the $2 store.
  • Hiring a bouncy castle or other games/activities is always a great idea - kids love bouncy castles & it is a good way for them to burn off some of their excitement & energy. Ensure that there is always an adult stationed at the bouncy castle to watch the kids & stop any unsafe behavior.
  • If you would rather not have the party at your house there are many places that specifically cater for childrens parties. While this option may cost you a bit more than if you did it yourself, it will definitely save your house from becoming one big playground & is a far easier option if you do not have a lot of time to organize everything yourself.
  • Don't forget to have your camera, charged & handy, if possible ask one of the other parents to take photos, you are normally so busy running around sorting out all the other things, you may forget to take photos.
Good luck!
